Ellipses, Dec 16… listening produces the best outcome
Ellipses… a small, special character.
Used by writers to slow down, create a pause, and indicate thinking.
Issue #006
⚫️ 1 tip: Listening produces the best outcome 📌
As James Clear writes his next book, he spends an “unreasonable” amount of time with its positioning. Not writing, not editing, but positioning.
Positioning is James’ way of saying he tests and listens. He’s not concerned with pushing his agenda or thoughts on people; he wants to meet them where they are and provide a solution that will truly help them. And half of that battle comes down to creating “something that people will be interested in.”
So how does this relate to productivity?
Work without a destination is busywork. Pushing digital papers around on your computer for 8 hours won’t bring anything good.
Work with a clear goal, especially when it pertains to a goal that provides for others and gives them exactly what they’re looking for, will move the needle in the most efficient way possible.
Whether you’re drafting an email to a client, recording a video for YouTube, or writing your next book… remember to spend unreasonable amounts of time defining the destination by listening to others.
⚫️ 1 link: A key way to level up in 2022 🔗
My career trajectory changed at the end of this year because of a key investment I made for myself.
The guys who run Ship30 (Dickie and Cole) are beyond. They share content that will help you:
Get fired up and finally develop a writing habit. You’ll finally be able to call yourself a writer without breaking a sweat.
Level up your copywriting game. It’s true… I learned things in Ship30 that boosted my copywriting education tenfold.
Communicate better online. As the world moves to a remote environment, you need to know how to write in a clear and compelling way.
⚫️ 1 journal prompt: Appreciation is the second part of true happiness 📔
The thing that differentiates us from our fellow mammals? Play and appreciation. And sure, you can probably figure out a way to play in your journal, but for right now let’s keep it related to journaling.
Cal Newport says happiness comes from deep work and pausing to express gratitude. It’s that simple. You don’t have to:
Work at your dream job
Forage for happiness, whether in front of Netflix or at the mall (gosh… does saying “mall” show my age?)
Feel happy every second of the day (in fact, that makes you a psychopath)
Do stuff that allows you to focus for extended periods of time. Then write about how good you feel about it in your journal.
Thanks for reading!
Comment to chat further on any of the above. See you next week.
Be safe and well,
🖤 Jenny
